Could 1 glass of wine a day keep Alzheimer away?
According to a study, to consume 1 glass of wine a day would be beneficial in the prevention of the Alzheimer's disease.
The MIND diet is a hybrid of the Mediterranean diet and the DASH diet (which aims at reducing high blood pressure). After a 4 years and 5 months study of 923 patients aged between 58 and 98, Martha Clare Morris, nutritional epidemiologist and her team at Rush University, suggest that people who strictly observed the MIND diet had lowered their chance of Alzheimer’s disease by 54% and people who only followed the major guideline still cut their risk of the disease by 35%.
The MIND diet present 10 types of food beneficial in keeping the brain healthy. It is particularly true for berries and especially blueberries.
The beneficial foods are :
- Green leafy vegetables : At least six servings a week
- Other vegetables: At least one a day
- Nuts: Five servings a week
- Berries: Two or more servings a week
- Beans: At least three servings a week
- Whole grains: Three or more servings a day
- Fish: Once a week
- Poultry : Two times a week
- Olive oil: Use it as your main cooking oil.
- Wine: One glass a day
These beneficial foods also come with their counterpart food that increase risks such as sweets and pastries, fried and fast food and butter and margarine.
