Home Support: More Than Just Bathing Assistance
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of home support? Help with bathing? Assistance with incontinence? What if it was actually moments spent with friends?
At Home Instead, our mission is to change the way people see aging by helping seniors maintain the quality of life they desire and offering peace of mind to families and caregivers.
The story of Mrs. Amelia
We would like to introduce Mrs. Amelia and her caregiver Anne-Marie. Mrs. Amelia has Alzheimer’s disease. Since July, Anne-Marie has been helping Mrs. Amelia daily with doing the grocery shopping, cooking and a bit of housework, as well as maintaining good hygiene, reminding her to take her medication and making sure she is safe.
Besides the practicalities, Anne-Marie and Mrs. Amelia have a relationship based on trust, friendship and the daily pursuit of happiness through moments like a girl’s manicure day and shared laughter at the neighbourhood coffee shop.
Last Thursday they celebrated this friendship at the Musée Grévin, which was a dream come true for Mrs. Amelia because she had her photo taken with her favourite childhood actor, Charlie Chaplin, and the president of the United States, Barack Obama. :)
Home support, personal care, home care—Above and beyond these services are human beings: seniors who need to socialize, get out, live, share quality time and enjoy life with the people around them, regardless of their condition.
We achieve our mission and enhance the lives of seniors who use our services by creating an accessible environment, respecting the personality and interests of each individual, and developing a relationship that goes beyond the "needs of home support."
